Teaching children about mental health- CuesEd

In Spring term, Year 3 worked on a psycho-education project developed by the psychologists and therapists from the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Specially designed cartoon characters helped the children relate to how different situations might make them feel - all the children sympathised when one of the cartoon characters is feeling left out and imagines that his friends are laughing at him.

The children were falling out of their chairs, hands straining in the air, knees jiggling with excitement as they begged to be picked. The programme taught children to recognise the signs when things aren't right, and some behavioural techniques to help them manage low mood.

Rather than being fearful about talking about these things, we want children to have the language that allows them to get the right help and to say.
